Successful encounters

This past Saturday, as hoped, I met both Marisa McClelland and Aran Goyoaga. I was so excited to meet Marisa, I forgot to take pictures. We chatted about where we both grew up, she answered some of my newbie questions about canning, and also brought some samples of jams she made. I'm so glad I got to meet her and I'm just as enthusiastic and inspired to try new recipes next season.

Aran Goyoaga started with a food styling demonstration. It was interesting to hear that she doesn't work in an idyllic "fairyland" as she called it. She has a very small working area and often takes photos in her son's room because it has the best natural light. She put together a couple of dishes and then staged them as she might do for her own photo shoots. She also talked about her camera equipment - something I can't relate to since I only use my little smartphone. Still, I learned a few things that I'm going to try out in the future. She also made a couple of treats for us, one is pictured below - pistachio & vanilla bean shortbread.
